ZAGREB, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Two more Croatian sites have been included in UNESCO's World Heritage List on Sunday, at the 41st Session of the World Heritage Committee in Krakow, Poland.

The two newly inscribed are the old walls of the town of Zadar and the St. Nicholas Fortress in Sibenik.

"We are delighted. We have been working on this project for six years and this award will be a big push for touristic promotion of the country. This could lead to opening new jobs," Davor Trupkovic, assistant of Croatian Minister of Culture, told Xinhua on Sunday.

Located on the island Ljuljevac in the Adriatic Sea, near the town of SibenikSt, Nicholas Fortress dates back to the 16th century. With a specific triangular shape, the fortress was built to protect the city from raids by Ottoman Turks, but has never fulfilled its function as it was not active. However, it has become an attractive tourist spot nowadays.

Zadar, another Croatian coastal city, was once the largest city-fortress in the entire Republic of Venice. Its walls were built between the 15th and 17th century. Some of the walls and eight gates are still well preserved today.

Early on Friday, UNESCO also recognized beech forests in Northern Velebit and Paklenica National Parks in Croatia as part of a trans-boundary heritage site of primeval beech forests that stretch over 12 countries.

With these newly-added sites, Croatia now has 11 places on the UNESCO list.

CANBERRA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The exploits of Australian Socceroos' Massimo Luongo in January's AFC Asian Cup have propelled the young star into the race for world football's greatest individual honor, the Ballon d'Or.

The 23-year-old, who this season moved to Queens Park Rangers in the English Championship from third-tier side Swindon Town, was a surprising inclusion on the 59-man shortlist released on Tuesday.

The list places Luongo's name alongside some of football's biggest names, including past winners Leo Messi (four time winner) and Cristiano Ronaldo (three).

Luongo, who led Australia to its first piece of international silverware as the player of the tournament in the Asian Cup, was surprised to be in the race for the crown.

""I didn't even know if it was real... I thought it was someone trying to be funny,"" he told Australian Associated Press on Tuesday.

""It's obviously a big honor, not many people get on it, I can say I've been on the Ballon d'Or list now.

""I don't know what to say about it... it's a bit random.""

However, worldwide media has reacted with surprise - and derision - at FIFA's nod to the midfielder, in spite of his stellar form for club and country in 2015.

Spanish sports newspaper Marca called Luongo a ""surprise candidate,"" while Madrid daily AS accused football's international body of ""belittling"" the award by including such a ""stranger.""

The statement said the participants exchanged in-depth opinions on overall situations after the DPRK's sixth nuclear test and assessed the new UN Security Council resolution on Pyongyang.
